Well, intellectually, I know there's a reason for the crying. And whenever I mention to folks that I'm not sure if I could handle raising kids they generally give me the "it'll be different when it's your kid" argument. But there's something about an infant crying that plays with your spine like a xylophone (which I'm sure is at least partially an evolutionary thing to make sure parents are noticing that there's offspring in danger), and the acoustics of a Catholic church don't exactly dampen the effect.

I admit I found little Zoe's sense of timing interesting, though. Even though very little changed in terms of noises going on and events happening, she stopped crying at almost the exact moment the priest said the final words (and she'd started crying right at the beginning, long before any of the holy water or blessed olive oil came into play). There was still the same amount of noise in the church afterwards, from people congratulating my Cousin Jimmy and such. But it's like she decided she could stop annoying the priest at that particular moment in time.

Of course, I don't know how old Zoe is, so there's a chance she's just old enough to understand boredom and that was the cause. I know I wasn't too far off from that sort of reaction, myself. ;)

Personally, I'm not a big fan of baptising infants, myself, just for the record. In any case, Zoe was a lot more well-behaved at the restaurant, and I can live with that.

Thanks for the insight, though. I appreciate it.
