My family exchanged our Christmas presents tonight, a little off from our usual plans. Not that I mind, I just wish we could have been in on it.
With my family, we usually exchange presents with my grandparents (just my grandmother, this year and last) the night before, and eat a big dinner here. Then on Christmas morning my brother and I drive up to mom's house, open our presents there, eat some sort of pasta, and then drive to my dad's where we get more presents and eat yet more food. Well, she changed it tonight. Of course, had I known ahead of time I'd have had everything wrapped... but oh well.
So we exchanged presents tonight because my mom has the dog from hell in her house and couldn't put up a tree or anything, and tomorrow I'll just go straight to my old man's place with Curtis.
I'm pretty pleased with myself, though. At the Requiem tabletop game I'm in, I accidentally stumbled onto a way around the 'mortals take two days to heal Lethal so you can't just feed from the same one over and over without killing him' thing. My current character is a vampiric doctor (and a Morbus, not that any of the other PC's ICly know that), hired by the Prince of the city to help investigate some new street drug that seems to be made from Vitae and has odd effects on vampires. Anyhow, seeing as how he's a doctor, and a reasonably good one, I bought the Holistic Awareness Merit for him at character creation.
It occurred to me half-way through the session that Holistic Awareness is damn useful for vampires. After all, it accelerates the healing of wounds that don't require surgery. Well, recovering from blood loss doesn't require surgery, does it? Which means that as long as my character has time to apply some special herbs and juices and whatnot to someone he's just fed from, he can feed from that person the next day and not have to worry about the fact that mortals generally take two days to heal a point of Lethal.
Yeah, I know, I'm sure I'm not the first guy to think of it. But I came up with it on my own, without having to read it on the forums or anything. I was talking with someone about it on AIM and said:
I don't get to be genuinely clever that often. I didn't say anything about the benefits there at the table and I'm glad that [Annoying Twink Whose Name I Won't Say in A Public Post] wasn't there. Or else his next character will be a hardcore warrior-doctor from the Far East who can deal Agg with his well-crafted rocket-hands.
Trust me, if you knew who I was talking about, you'd either find it funny or horrifying because that's exactly what he'd do.
Anyhow, I'm pleased with myself.
