Mostly-random thoughts
May. 31st, 2003 12:25 amFirst off, the L5R Bounty I mentioned before has been posted.
( To keep everyone else from being L5R-overgeeked... )
In other news, apparently the Waldenbooks at the Middletown Mall closed just recently. I can sort of understand why... nobody goes to that mall. The owners charge a small fortune for rent and as a result there are few stores that do any business there. Because of that, nobody goes there to shop. And, to be perfectly honest, while I'm a regular browser at Waldenbooks at the Meadowbrook or Morgantown Malls, I never go-- er, went to the one at the Middletown Mall. Y'see, when I go out to buy books, I rarely buy bestsellers and overhyped authors... and the small size of that particular Waldenbooks location just doesn't-- er, didn't (need to get used to that) give them the room to stock anything else. Hence, if I was looking for gaming books or a decent sci-fi/fantasy novel that wasn't by one of a half-dozen particular authors, I'd have to go to the Meadowbrook Mall Waldenbooks. So, as much as I hate to say it, the loss of the Middletown Mall Waldenbooks isn't that great.
But, to make it up to me, Waldenbooks sent me a '15% off' coupon, which is how I heard about the closing. So I guess I should grieve, just a little bit. ;)
...
There. I'm done grieving.
In other news, I hit the Book n Bean earlier tonight and got a little bit of writing done. Go me! It's not much, but it's something.
Why did I go to the Book n Bean tonight, you ask? After all, didn't I go last night like I usually do on Thursdays, you ask? Well, to be honest, I didn't get there last night. Wound up hanging out with the local fur again (who currently goes by the name Sake on Tapestries, so I'll just refer to him by that so I don't have to keep saying 'the local fur' or using his real name). We meant to hit the Book n Bean together, but just didn't get around to it. So tonight I got a bit of writing done there, and it just so happens that I'd hit the Book n Bean Wednesday as well-- now that Buffy's off the air and Angel's in reruns, that gives me a couple more nights free to get some work done. I can't write at home because of all the potential distractions. It makes it hard to focus on my writing. Oh well. I manage.
And, for once, I'll have someone to accompany me on a trip to AnthroCon later this year. Sake's managed to scrape up the financial means to attend AnthroCon, and he'll be hitching a ride with me. Hopefully he'll be able to put up sharing a car ride with me for a few hours without feeling the need to kill me or himself. :D
In other news, tomorrow (or, well, actually today) is my brother's graduation from high school. Sort of. It's one of those cases where he won't have enough credits to graduate until he finishes summer school, but they're letting him walk across the stage at graduation-- you guys probably all know the drill. Despite his constant skipping school and recent drug and alcohol problems, after having to complete a correspondance course, he's just barely managed enough credits that summer school will allow him to graduate and get a diploma when he's done. And of course, the lucky little shit won't appreciate it at all. Oh well. Not my problem.
I think that's about everything I feel up to rambling about at the moment. Those of you still reading can go home now.
