Brainstorming for stuff I might run at Gencon. Just vomiting out story ideas. Feedback appreciated.

-Monsterhearts, everyone works at a music store (rather than the traditional high school setting), inspired by Empire Records
-Monster of the Week, a story I've been considering a while (that just didn't have a good system) about the weird shit that terrorizes Hollywood and makes so many actors irreparably crazy
-Monster of the Week, a group of 'retired' intelligence agents/assets who are put to work fighting monsters; kinda TFV meets Desolation Jones with a dash of Fringe.

Nothing's really coming to me regarding stories for either WoD or any other system I know well enough to run.

Maybe, just maybe, I might apply to run something with the Fate Core hack I've been putting together for Avatar: The Last Airbender/Legend of Korra. But I might need a little more time to think about that and focus on getting what's above in for the early event registration.

Any thoughts? Questions? Feedback? EXPLOSIONS?!

Heh, your 'retired intelligence agents one reminds me a little of that concept I considered running in FATE for our group.

I'm in support of your Avatar setting but only if you GM one for us, too! *grins* Just so I can be a cranky blind Earth bender.... totally not Toph.

I personally love all of these ideas, of course, the sad part is, I love them for our own group. Especially the record store one, given my fondness of vinyl and sort of an 80's/early 90's setting. I liked that movie, though as it was kinda that last bridge out of my childhood and into the next era.
The Monsterhearts setting feels like one that would be a bit more 'long term' for some reason. I'm not entirely sure why, perhaps because the setting suggests 'slice of life' stuff.... that would be day to day versus 'all in one day'.

That's fair, regarding the Monsterhearts stuff. Now, that said, the events of Empire Records take place over the course of a single day. It might work better for a longer-term game, but it might be worth attempting for a one-shot as well. (I mean, I'd probably blatantly acknowledge the inspiration and outright steal the 'has-been rock star doing a personal appearance' story point)

But I might give that one more of a consideration. I'm just going over it because we're rapidly approaching the deadline for early event registration.

Ah! I didn't know that it was one day. For some reason it felt like it spanned a few days at least. Now if you do a one-off day like the movie, then yeah I can see it working. You're going to have to run me through a 'one-shot' scenario some night because I'd like to see how they work out so I can pare down my epic-lengthy-boring my players stories.

To my understanding, originally the movie was supposed to take place over a couple of days but some last-minute rewrites and editing made it one day. Supposedly. But also, they do a really good job of building up the characters to feel like we've known them for a while, so it's an easy mistake to make.
