I'm sick today. A cold, I think. This sucks for one primary reason... it kept me inside where I couldn't go out and participate in the Magic: The Gathering State Championship. Now, I'm not a huge Magic player, but this is the first (and probably only[1]) year that I'd be able to get in on it without having to drive to Charleston.

Fortunately, I'm feeling better than I was this morning, although I'm not 100%. A steady 'diet' of green tea and Advil Cold and Sinus[2] has improved my condition drastically. I've got a bit of a headache and feeling kinda cruddy, but I'm getting by. So that's something.

In other words, my grandmother got a phone call earlier. I wasn't trying to eavesdrop, but since it was my mom I listened in for a minute (which I'll occasionally do). Apparently she's taking care of my cousin Shy's toddler. Why? Because her husband beat her up and as far as I know everyone else in the family has sworn off contact with her. But that's what occasionally happens when you insist on marrying and starting a family with a convicted felon and registered pedophile. I'm not saying she deserved what she got, I'm just explaining why the rest of the family just won't deal with her. I've only met the guy once (at the funeral last year for my paternal grandmother) but I at least got a weird vibe out of him.

Well, back to fooling around on the net and trying to improve my condition.

[1]-- Apparently the guy who runs the local card shop was treated rudely by a Wizards of the Coast customer service representative. So he swore that after States (which he'd already signed up for), he wouldn't allow any more sanctioned tournaments in the store.
[2]-- As in steady, I just mean I've been taking it just as often as recommended, don't worry.
