Vaguely random thought
Jan. 16th, 2004 06:07 pmI see, next to constantly, ads for DVD releases of movies, promising special features, etc. They all seem to have deleted scenes on them now, and I remember a time when you had to search like hell for a DVD with subtitle options.
But one thing that's stuck in my mind that I've been meaning to mention is this...
Does anyone else worry about movie-makers that aren't going to worry as much about cutting a scene simply because they can stick it on the DVD?
I mean, I've heard discussions of how a director will agonize for days over whether or not a scene adds enough to the movie that it's necessary. But what about today, when someone could say "Oh heck with it, we change a line later, put the cut stuff on the DVD, and the people will still get to see it. Let's just get this thing in theaters." Maybe I'm weird, but sometimes I worry that directors could be cutting corners on movies, knowing they can make up for it later.
