RIP, Derek Landon...
Feb. 22nd, 2004 05:07 amWell, Theatre of Darkness had its LARP tonight, as usual... except tonight was the famed siege to which I've been referring for a while. I went in knowing that there was a definite chance that Derek (my Nosferatu Antitribu) wouldn't be coming back, and I wasn't surprised. He went down in the middle of an attack on the Prince and Sheriff of Charleston. In a nutshell, we were kind of lured into a trap, our fighting forces had to fight on stairs that put us in a bottleneck, and the morons who were mostly in charge of that particular mission were led by an idiot who refused to bring guns. Why? Because he thought that they'd be so ineffective against vampires that it would just be easier to have everybody hold a stake in each hand and rush him. No, seriously.
Out of 16 vampires sent on the raid, only 4 got out. One who ran off because the character had no stats that were at all useful (he was being proxied by a new player, see below), two who were chased away by Dread Gaze early on, and one who ran like hell after taking a severe beating (and he'll most likely be dead soon anyways). It was an absolute cluster-fuck. Two things went wrong: One, folks who weren't present for the siege were being proxied with whatever character sheets the ST's had available (which means that one of the group's heavy hitters had to be played by someone else, using the sheet they turned in when they first created the character, even though he'd put a lot of experience points into him). The second? Partially due to someone requiring proxy, a moron was put in charge of the actual attack planning.
By the time things were at a point where Derek would be able to get away, he'd either be killed by the Sabbat upon his return as a failure, he'd be killed by the Prince and/or Sheriff in combat, or they'd hunt him down after he tried to run. So he stood and fought. All I hope is that Derek's pile of dust was crooked to match the hunch he had in unlife.
I have to admit, I'll miss playing him. Apparently I was so good at holding the hunch that he bore that someone else in the game actually thought I was a stroke victim or something, OOCly. He hadn't realized it was an in-character thing.
Next week, which is normally the LARP's week off, we're finishing the siege-- the earlier scenes took too long and there just wasn't enough time to finish the biggest battle of them all.
But at some point after that, I'll be getting a new character. I'm still trying to decide exactly what I'm going to run, but so far I've come up with a few concepts. I don't feel up to going into the details at the moment, but they are, Clan-wise, a Malkavian Antitribu, a Toreador Antritibu, and a Tzimisce.
