Well, I'm back.
Feb. 20th, 2004 03:26 pmLucky me. I only had to get up at 5:30 this morning. Gee.
Of course, I wound up waking up at 5 anyhow, just because I had trouble remaining asleep through the night.
After having some breakfast and getting dressed, I drove my brother and my mom to Charleston, stopping along the way so the two of them could get something to eat. Other than that, we got there without incident. One of the Senators had previously told us that we could go ahead and use Joe Manchin's[1] special parking lot, although when we got there we were told that said Senator didn't have the authority to make those sorts of reservations, so we had to use the visitor's lot and put a whole bunch of change into a parking meter.
To make a long story short (yes, too late, I know), we wound up waiting a good long while, met a bunch of folks who worked with my grandfather, were personally introduced to about half of the senators. That sort of thing. Then they declared State Resolution 21, where they more or less put in the record books that they thought my grandfather was a great guy (for some reason, I find it oddly-fitting that most of my grandfather's closest friends are politicians[2]).
After that, we got copies of the Resolution and came home. Not really much to it beyond that.
But the important thing is that I'm back now. And I have a meme to pass along...
And now to change clothes and hit the mall and comic book store.
[1]-- Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate.
[2]-- Yeah, I know, he did a lot for us financially and apparently he did a lot for the state. But in my eyes, that doesn't change the fact that to his family, my grandfather was a prick.
