Finally... my weekend.
Jul. 28th, 2004 02:58 amI really need to get around to doing my LARP write-ups closer to the actual playing dates.
One thing I'm kinda wondering about, though... have cell phones become so common that now any time someone wants to track down someone else then it's standard procedure to call their cell phone first?
I spent most of Monday just kinda... vegged out at my place. At one point in the evening I got a call from my younger brother, on my regular phone. He said that Dad had been trying to get ahold of me for a while because apparently some of the family was in town and they were having a get-together. Of course, this being my father, he couldn't be bothered to let me know ahead of time. Or attempt to call me at my regular number at my grandmother's place. I found out later that he left a message on my cell phone voice mail and just left it at that.
Thing is, I wasn't feeling one-hundred percent anyhow-- not sick, just really, really tired. So when my brother mentioned this whole thing to me, I just told him I didn't feel up to going anywhere (which I didn't) and to say hi to everyone for me.
Now, given that my dad tends to put forth the bare minimum of effort required when it comes to anything parenting-related, why is it that any time someone tries to get ahold of me they have to do it through my cell phone? Saturday night, for example, my friend Eben gave me a call. He didn't know if that was my off week for ToD or not, so he left a message on my cell phone, expecting me to call him back and let him know if I was busy or not. Despite the fact that he could have called, say, my grandmother and just asked if I was in or not (and if I wasn't in I'd probably be busy anyhow), he left a message on my cell phone for me to get about 5 hours later (since I leave my cell in the car whenever I'm LARPing-- as halting a scene to answer my cell phone is pretty frickin' rude). I dunno.
For some reason I just find it weird that whenever anyone wants to get ahold of me, the first place they try is my cell phone. Now, I understand that if I'm away from home, then my cell is the easiest way to track me down. Thing is, I'm not away from the house that often (and when I am, I'm generally busy-- not just kind of driving around, waiting for people to call), and I'm apparently the only person in the world who doesn't leave his cell phone on all day while he's at home just in case. So if someone needs to get in touch with me and I spent the whole day at my apartment, I might not get their message until the next evening. I dunno. Maybe it's something off with me.
( Bit of a political shakeup in Morgantown... )
I'll do my Night Lair write-up later... I'm frickin' tired.
