mythicfox: (Headlock)
Okay, so I'm writing a superhero story. A recent scene revealed the true name of one of the characters. The perspective is third-person focused, alternating between characters by scene. When the scene focuses on the character in question, I can't decide whether to use his real name or his 'hero name,' since the latter is what he calls himself in his own internal monologue. But should third-person be a little more objective than that? It just feels jarring to make a change like that to the narrative. (Conversely, I have another character who really does think of themselves as their 'civilian' name first so when the narrative is focused on them I use that.)

Thoughts?

(Also, testing to see if I can use the subject line for hashtags when I cross-post this to Twitter)
