Me and social networking
Nov. 6th, 2012 03:03 pmFirst off, before I get to the meat of this post, I voted a little while ago. Got my sticker and everything. Also, it's friggin' warm out there. I wore a heavy coat to walk over to my assigned polling place because I was expecting low-40's only to get 60 degrees in the sun. Last week at this time we had snow. (Of course, last week at this time a horrible storm was ravaging the east coast, but still.)
And now on to 'business.'
It's been made pretty clear to me recently that for professional reasons I'm pretty much going to have to at some point get on board at least one of the various big-name social networking options aside from Twitter. I'm not going to get a Facebook account for a myriad of reasons I'm not getting into here but I've had a few different people send me Google+ invites at the same time. For the most part I've viewed Google+ thusly, at best the lesser of two evils (even with Google being a little less not-evil than they used to be) and at worst a pretentious clone. But given that some people I respect have sent me invites, I've decided I'm willing to hear a pitch about it. I can't make any guarantees other than that this is your chance to sell me on Google+ if you think I should use it. (Or, alternately, if I should get a 'proper' Wordpress-style blog and just make sure to crosspost everything to Twitter)
So get to it.
