Life and convention updates
Aug. 11th, 2013 09:33 amFor those of you who haven't heard, I'll be at Gencon this coming weekend. Just getting that out of the way. If anyone needs me, you can contact me through here, the normal email stuff, or my cell number if you've got it.
Schedule-wise, I'm taking it a little slow-ish and more open-ended this year than usual. Other than the Mantis Clan dinner on Thursday night, I'm pretty much skipping all of the L5R stuff this year. I've been a little burned out on the game, a few choices made from the event/storyline end of things that have rubbed me the wrong way, and it's always tied up a little too much of my convention weekend. Playing in the qualifiers basically requires leaving my Saturdays completely open in case I make the cut (which I've never done) or feel up to playing the Second Chance event (which takes place at the same time as the championships but gives people who didn't qualify something to do). The Second Chance tournament just isn't attractive to me this year and I don't feel like tying up two days to the regular tournament. (And it's always a pain in the ass finding events last-minute once you're already at the convention)
So I'm going to take it slow and not really plan anything for Thursday beyond probably just relaxing a bit, shopping, and maybe playing some game demos at the exhibition hall (although if anybody knows of anything going on that'll have slots, I'm open-minded). I will be playing in the Netrunner tournament on Friday, though. I've had very few chances to play the new Netrunner since it came out (I really need to rework my schedule to make it easier to make it to the gaming store when, reportedly, people are up there playing it) and I'm not missing this one. Other than that I've just got little stuff here and there planned (mostly seminars and the like).
(I'll be staying in the Hyatt, BTW, in case that matters to anyone.)
My 'casual' writing's been put on the back-burner while I work on some freelancing work, and I'll be poking at that during Gencon (and probably also at Child of the Machine edits and revisions). I've been reorganizing some of my reading backlog as well, I know I owe some people my thoughts on some stuff.
In other news, I think I've finally got the last of the financial snags worked out regarding my late mother's estate. Of course, I've said that before. But one can well and truly hope. I'll probably know by this time next month if there's anything else that needs to be taken care of (namely for reasons connected to her houses, which we may have finally managed to unload). It'll be so nice to have all that behind me. So friggin' nice.
