Personal update regarding coming out
Feb. 7th, 2017 11:58 pmSo as you'll recall, I recently made this post, talking about coming out to my family about my sexuality. So last week I had a sit-down with my cousin and told him. It went well, as I intellectually expected it to, but it was still good to actually have that conversation. Good to hear that he approved and supported me. I wasn't really expecting otherwise, but even still.
I also sent a letter to my brother, who moved away last year. The reasons why I sent him a letter instead of calling him aren't relevant or appropriate to a public post, and I would have told him in person had I had a good chance. This wasn't just me trying in vain to find a 'perfect' moment, either. At one point there were plans for my brother, my dad, and I to have dinner together before my brother moved away, and had that dinner happened I'd have told them both there. Obviously it didn't so here we are. Anyhow, I got a text from him Sunday night telling me he supports and loves me, and then some other stuff not appropriate to get into in a public post.
So that's it. My dad, step-mom, brother, and cousin know. Given that I can literally (not figuratively) count on one hand how many times I talk to the rest of my family as a whole in a given year, I think I can comfortably say they can probably wait. I dunno, I'll give my dad a call and ask him.
Anyhow, I'm rambling. I just wanted to update folks on how that went, and apologize again for taking so long to do this in the first place.
