Meant to post this last night...
Mar. 1st, 2004 04:28 am...but I was frickin' tired and I'm tired now, but I don't want to put it off any longer.
Well, the siege on Charleston was declared a complete failure (ICly as well as OOCly-- Chaz, the head ST, said he most likely wasn't going to do something like that ever again). The folks who weren't killed there were driven away, mostly by poor on-the-fly tactics and lack of intelligent planning. I'm honestly not sure what happened to the survivors, because I was in another room, preparing and approving my next character.
They let me play the Malk I had in mind. I was concerned that they might consider it odd and/or unfair to play the childe of a dead character, but since that character Embraced and left the resulting progeny someplace where they could escape. Similarly, the game also has a house rule known as the 'Inigo Montoya Clause.' Simply put-- the same player cannot play two characters that know of each other, or are connected to each other in any way that might allow one to transfer equipment to the other, or would allow a player to use one to avenge the other[1]. But nope. He's approved.
The character's name is Freddie Zachs. Years ago, he was a security guard at a factory run by a major corporation. The corporation (and thus, the factory) wasn't environmentally-friendly and brought the attention of eco-terrorists. It was the first time he'd had to deal with something serious, and he'd pussed out and ran and the factory was destroyed. In retaliation, he wasn't only fired but the company more or less had his life ruined.
He spent the subsequent years living on the streets, beating himself up over what happened. At some point he wound up in Morgantown, WV. One night, while sharing a fire with a couple of other bums, they were attacked. Some lunatic (Okay, technically a Lunatic[2]) came out of the bushes and attacked the three of them. The Malkavian in question, Clive[3], proceeded to clean up two of the bums, completely shave them (his reasoning being that he didn't want them to have to worry about personal grooming for all eternity), and then Embrace those two and let them eat the third.
Clive left them down there when he went on the siege, and the two of them managed to escape (we were going to incorporate Raven, the local Black Hand into this since he was the only one who knew they were down there, but Raven was being retired after 5 years of being an active player-character so we tweaked it a bit). He's managed to hook up with the local Sabbat based off of stuff that Clive told him. What's going to be interesting is that, if anyone checks, Freddie hasn't been formally initiated in the Sabbat, but he thinks he is. He was used as staking practice by his sire, but he was told that it was an initiation ritual. So if it ever comes up, he'll wind up owning up to the fact that he hasn't been branded (although, personally, I doubt it'll come up).
His derangement is that he's constantly being stalked by a shadowy figure. He 'remembers' that this figure's been haunting him since the incident at the factory. He never gets a look at it, just occasionally snatching glimpses out of the corner of his eye or hearing it off in the distance. He worries that it's in every shadow around him, and sometimes even inside the other people around him. Most of the time, he seems calm-- if somewhat edgy, glancing out windows and such.
Get him someplace that's dark and open, like say outside at night, though, and he gets paranoid. Every moving shadow could be the thing that's stalking him, and every sound could be the thing's breath. He has a bit of a fear of the dark because of this. Normally, he's fine about it-- he won't be the first to go into a pitch black room, but he can steel himself for it. But if you were to lock him in a dark closet by himself, he'd completely freak out (think that scene from The Sixth Sense.
Out of the fresh meat that's arrived in town to bolster the local Sabbat's numbers, the most interesting is a Nosferatu called Mouse, but I'll go into detail on that later. I'm tired.
[1]-- Hence the name 'Inigo Montoya Clause...' "I am Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."
[2]-- For those non-Vampire fans who might be reading this, Lunatic is the slang term for Malkavians because, well, they're all crazy.
[3]-- Sean's character, who didn't make it back from the siege.
