And I'm back
Jan. 3rd, 2007 11:47 pmI got back from the Book n Bean a little while ago, where I got a little bit of writing done. Not as much as I'd like, though... have you ever thought of a good setup for a story, but have absolutely no clue as to where it should go? You've got a good premise and a Point A, plot-wise, but have trouble figuring out where Point B is?
As I write this, I'm watching Leno because tonight at some point they're supposed to have Masi Oka on... and all I can think, waiting for that part, is "Man, I'm glad I don't normally force myself to suffer through this."
The Forsaken game that Zac's running picked up with the three Uratha getting together to try and track down A.J. Mason, the reporter who's been covering the recent "yeti" sightings in the paper. We checked the phone book to see if there's any listing for this 'Andrew Mason' who claimed to be Robbie's (our Cahalith's bandmate) lawyer. As expected, there wasn't any law office in the phone book this guy was connected to (and what lawyer doesn't advertise?), so we just managed to track down an address for the guy in the residential section.
We also drove to the tabloid itself and by telling them we had a couple of folks he might want to interview for his latest story (which, technically, they would be perfect-- a friend of the victim and a witness, after all) and got yet another address for the guy.
We decided to try the nearer one, which was in a trailer park. A woman who was apparently his wife answered the door with a couple of kids in tow, and when the Cahalith (who's an 18-or-19-year old rocker punk who wears a shirt that reads "I ate Little Red Riding Hood") asked about him, his wife said he wasn't there and muttered something about a "cheating son of a bitch" before she closed the door.
We decided we should get into the house somehow for good measure, and got some supplies to create a massive distraction... I'm honestly not sure whose idea it was (I just know it wasn't my character's), but apparently it was decided to create an effigy of Mason and set it on fire in his front lawn to distract everyone while someone snuck in. Originally Sean's Elodoth was going to do it, but then I pointed out something to the effect of "excuse me, Irraka, Stealth Gifts" and thus I was volunteered.
I snuck in and poked around the house, being extra quiet once I noticed that the folks in Mason's place specifically weren't out on the front lawn, watching the fire. I got into his study, which was thoroughly trashed. The Masons' cat kept bugging me while I dug through his file cabinet and swiped all of his 'yeti' stuff. Using Dual Senses I was pretty sure there was a spirit of some sort in there, possibly a child ghost or something... which didn't help matters much when I found a human finger digging through the trash can.
At that point I figured "Okay, there's no way in hell I'm going any further than this without checking in." I took the finger, files, and left, with the cat insisting on following me and me being unable to stop it from doing so without just killing it. I got back to the others and told them what I found... they told me that they were going to check out the other address while I slipped back into the house.
I went back in, with the cat still following me, and began poking around... to make a long, disturbing story short, I found the brutally murdered remains of one of the children. The cat kept meowing at me, and my character was strongly suspecting that the cat was possessed by one of the children (being a Bone Shadow, it was agreed he's prone to have the sort of 'training' that he might come to that theory). At one point I just snapped and asked it "What? What do you want me to see?"
And then it showed me the murders (thus revealing where the other child was, um... stored), revealing that the mother snapped and killed them -- possibly while under the influence of a spirit of some sort. Also, at one of the crime scenes in the house, I found what appeared to be a strand of spider-silk... I dialed 911 from the house phone there (putting sandwich bags on my hands to use as gloves to keep my fingerprints from being left there) and just left the phone connected to that to get someone to come out and find the bodies.
Across town, my packmates found Mason's place... and, to my understanding, a scene where he had brutally murdered Robbie and broadcast it over the net. While they were there, they got into a fight with an Azlu that almost killed the Elodoth.
We got back together and compared notes, and I think that was about when things left off. I did present a theory, though, that maybe it was the spirits messing with Mason's life that led him to the Uratha-- but it was pretty obvious that it was no coincidence.
I would like to note, though, that (and this is purely speculation on my part) due to some OOC drama I'm not 100% sure if this particular group's going to get back together again. But don't quote me on that.
Okay, that's it for now... later, folks.
