Apr. 25th, 2007 11:26 pmHit the coffee house tonight. Did a lot of great brainstorming for stuff for the Promethean game, some of it inspired by my recent acquisition of Saturnine Night. Had a chat with one of the regulars who's planning on opening up a gaming store in Fairmont, something a little less card-oriented than the one at the dirt mall.
I caught one of the new Spider-Man 3 trailers on TV tonight, and the prominence of Venom got me thinking... I thought that most of the new one was going to be Sandman/Green Goblin 2, with setup for Venom in a fourth. Weird. Or is it one of those things like when Robin Williams does a serious movie and the trailers consist entirely of the 30 seconds of comedy in the film?
The group picked up back in the library, looking over the books there and trying to figure out where to go next. There was some discussion over whether they should go after Hand, but Alexander reminded the group that another member of his throng was going after him and would bring him back in a week or two. It'd take a while because they were both on foot, which would give the throng plenty of time to finish their business in town and maybe relax a bit.
So in the meantime, they try to figure out how to deal with the quarry. Part of the overall plan involves some way of trying to get the water out so they can deal with what's on the bottom (or at least provoking it into surfacing to deal with them directly) without necessarily 'draining' it. The best idea they can think of involves introducing an electrical charge into the water to boil it away. The idea is proposed to work up some sort of contraption that would let them deliver the charge deep into the water (using steel cable, possibly turned into copper by one of Ander's Transmutations for better conductivity) to boil the water from the bottom up.
While this is going on, Misty gets some espresso for the group while Alexander fills them in on some of the history of it-- particularly the fact that nobody's ever been able to find the depth of the pool in the quarry, and that Veridian's found a way to drain it without causing too much damage to the environment.
Rudolf and Ander begin designing a device that consists of a series of cables with special boxes on the ends for the purpose of projecting an electrical charge beneath the surface. The planning stage led to a couple of interesting quotes...
Rudolf: "We want to build a dangerous and unstable device. That's the point of the exercise."
Rudolf: "There's one problem with welding. Fire bad."
While they're doing design work, Steve and Misty decide to go ahead and find a place where they should be able to purchase a good number of the supplies, about a half-hour outside of town. After getting to the bottom of the hill, though, Steve remembers that they'd have to get the capsule out of the back of the van and put it someplace so they have room for the supplies. Misty, with the help of a strange Transmutation that enhances his strength, helps him carry the capsule back up to the top of the hill where Alexander goes outside to meet them and lets them know he'll watch it for them. They go back out to get some shopping done.
Alexander gives the capsule a once-over with his strong sense of touch and goes inside to get Ander and Rudolf's attention. He takes them outside and explains to them that he's heard of the device they're hauling around... he said that it's called a Flamel Capsule, and that he'd only heard rumors of them himself. He explained they popped up a couple of decades ago and that there've never been more than maybe a half-dozen in existence at any single time.
A discussion of its functions (particularly, the capsule's ability to impart the humors of other Prometheans into one resting in the capsule, basically giving them the ability to learn other Lineages' Bestowments) led to Alexander explaining to Ander and Rudolf the nature of the five 'common' Lineages and some of their specialty abilities (after all, Rudolf hasn't been conscious that long and Ander's been locked up in a castle and most of his knowledge comes from a set of journals and alchemical texts that were never properly intended to teach someone the details of Promethean existence.
The subject eventually turns to what Alexander knows about Ander, his creator, and Zettler. He finds out that Zettler was spotted around Europe a few times after his fall from the walls of the castle until an incident where one of his labs detonated a couple of years after WWII ended. The three of them eventually head back inside to get back to work.
Steve and Misty get back with the first round of stuff needed for the devices. He's given a bunch of money to pick up the rest of it and goes back out. The rest of the session consisted of Steve finishing the shopping trip and everyone working together to put together the devices, getting everything ready for the test in a couple of hours.
Ander and Steve go out into the woods and decide to get some sleep next to a campfire for a little burst to their Pyros come morning, and Rudolf wound up crashing at Misty's apartment in the city. With all that potentially implies.
And I'm out for the moment.
