Update on Mom's computer
Jan. 13th, 2009 12:22 amIn my last post, I neglected to mention that half of the problem is difficulty with getting internet service where my mother lives. Despite living in a city that has had landline DSL for a few years, she apparently lives in a pocket dimension where DSL is just unavailable. So as a result, the phone company sent her a wireless modem as she does have Verizon Wireless service (not broadband) available in her area.
Problem is, the laptop she ordered for herself is an HP mini-notebook (I don't know the exact model) that doesn't have a CD-ROM drive, making it pretty much impossible to install the software for the modem. She basically let QVC sell her a computer based more on portability than actual usefulness. She's going to talk to one of her neighbors who's more of an expert than I am to look at options, but at this point she's seriously considering just returning the computer and getting her money back.
