In my last post, I neglected to mention that half of the problem is difficulty with getting internet service where my mother lives. Despite living in a city that has had landline DSL for a few years, she apparently lives in a pocket dimension where DSL is just unavailable. So as a result, the phone company sent her a wireless modem as she does have Verizon Wireless service (not broadband) available in her area.

Problem is, the laptop she ordered for herself is an HP mini-notebook (I don't know the exact model) that doesn't have a CD-ROM drive, making it pretty much impossible to install the software for the modem. She basically let QVC sell her a computer based more on portability than actual usefulness. She's going to talk to one of her neighbors who's more of an expert than I am to look at options, but at this point she's seriously considering just returning the computer and getting her money back.

hmm... I think I could correct the situation, but she really needs a CD-Rom drive. Before going through the hassle of returning it, maybe run up to Best Buy and look for an external drive?

Also, I've been getting into Dr. Who on BBC America. It's a pretty cool show.

I'd think of either trying to get a USB external CDrom if possible, or see if you can make copies of the install files to a thumb drive and use that to install (assuming, of course, that she has USB ports, which, if she doesn't, tell her she has a new coaster)
