Every year I like to attend a gaming convention and a Furry convention. It's not the only one I've attended in the past, but my consistent 'at least one Fur con a year' convention has been Anthrocon for the past decade or so. The gaming convention I usually attend is Origins, and if that's unavailable I hit GenCon instead (as I have the last couple of years, when Origins has been the same weekend as AC).

This year, though, I've got a scheduling conflict with Origins and a potential snag with GenCon. Not going into detail on the Origins conflict, but the GenCon conflict is a high school reunion, and at the risk of sounding like an asshole I'm honestly wondering what I'd be missing if I attended GenCon instead.

As an alternative, though, I wouldn't mind some opinions on Dragon*Con as an alternative. I've heard mixed reactions to it in the past, though, generally ranging from "You have to go" to "Meh, it's something" to "I wouldn't bother going if I lived in the same city."

Haha! If it was my high school reunion, I would have gone with the game Con instead. But I hated my HS. So I skipped my reunion.

I don't know what yours was like so I can't tell you if you're being an asshole to skip it :p

In the end, ask yourself, how important were any of those people in your life? That's what I gauge going to HS reunions on versus something... I dunno, actually FUN! :D

I too skipped my reunion, but I'll probably go to the 20th. Everything I've witnessed about reunions is that the 10th tends to be the most uncomfortable, whereas by the 20th everyone's pretty laid back and just happy to see other people and catch up.

Well, admittedly, I don't think I'd be missing much at the reunion. I wouldn't know more than a third of them on sight anyways, as I just didn't get to know that many of them when we were in school together.

Although it would be very cool to see you at GenCon. And speaking of L5R, how's Undulation working out? I meant to sign up but just couldn't come up with a good concept, and I feel awkward about getting into a game that's already started.

well, I find that most of the forum games move too quickly for me to be a very big player in them. 2 OOC days to one IC day is a bit quick for me to be able to play out all my current threads and then join new ones as the days pass. So it's not really *quite* as fabulous as I'd like. But I'm working on a Seventh Sea tabletop game that might run using a forum, so we'll see how that works, too =p

I'm a bit obsessive, so it may take a while to launch, tho >.

Yeah, I know what you mean, there. 3 OOC days to one IC day would be good, or at the very least have like Friday through Sunday encompass one IC day.

I decided to go when I realized that everyone else will be just as uncomfortable. If nothing else, maybe we could score some free food and beer.
