The year's almost done
Dec. 24th, 2009 03:20 amWe're getting there, ain't we? My internal calendar's off, so I'm having trouble fully 'grasping' that it's almost Christmas and next week will be New Year's Eve (and then afterwards, New Year's Day).
Over the course of shopping, I wound up stumbling onto one of the signs of aging... along with a slight shortening of one's hearing range and nasolabial lines, a sure sign of aging is having to ask for help purchasing a video game at Best Buy because someone asked for a genre you're unfamiliar with.
(This year's been a new experience for me; because I don't have a working TV, I don't play a lot of recent video games at home outside of City of Heroes, so this year I wound up being the guy buying video games for everyone else.)
I also saw Something, Something, Something, Dark Side last night while hanging out with
mafiabass after we both finished up last-minute shopping. I think they could have done more with Mort-as-Lando, but it was still fantastic. And between how it handles Empire's 'down ending' and a sequel to the Family Guy vs. Robot Chicken argument from the end of Blue Harvest, it ends really strongly after what's just a riot the rest of the way through. There's also some fantastic CG effects in the space sequences as well.
In other news, my friend Sean (aka
cama_sotz) has an opinion 'alternative style' that I'm sure will piss off a lot of folks, but I agree with it and wish I could articulate it as well.
And in case anyone's wondering, I will be posting the second part of "Let Sleeping Foxes Lie" this Friday, even though it's Christmas and it's not exactly a Christmassy story. But one of the advantages of having most of the story written out ahead of time is that it's not like I have to sit down and pound away at it this week to get it done in time, so it's not as big of a deal to post.
And finally, a couple of pictures to share. There's a sheet of snow and ice slowly creeping down on the awning over my grandmother's porch. But it's been creeping down as icicles have been forming, and as a result there's a bunch of icicles hanging at a funny angle, and I had to take a few pictures. I got them from a couple of angles in an attempt to show how they're hanging down.
Ignore the dates on those, by the way. I only use my camera every few months at best, and for some reason it doesn't have a backup battery to retain date and time settings when there isn't a regular battery in it (or if it does, it doesn't work). And I just didn't feel like screwing with it this time.

Anyhow, to anyone whom I haven't shared holiday greetings and wishes yet, have a good holiday whatever you celebrate. Mahalo.
